HERE’S HOW YOUR DAY WILL GO AT A CYCLE CITY PROMOTIONS ARENACROSS Want to know what you can expect during the course of your day at an arenacross event? The following is a run-down of a typical day at a Cycle City Promotions event. Read the following, so you will know what to expect today, however please make note; some events will have different opening times and different practice and heat race times, please look at the calendar for exact times for your particular event:
9:00 a.m.
Pit Gate Opens:
Your first stop should be at the Pit Gate. All racers and spectators are required to purchase a $15 pit pass or they won’t be allowed in the facility during the course of the day. Even if you succeed in slipping by security without one, at some point you will be stopped and required to purchase your wristband. Hopefully it won't be when you are at the starting gate ready to run your heat race. Cycle City has recently lowered the price of entry fee's to offset the cost of a pit pass. This policy has streamlined Cycle City's pit gate process.
Registration:
You need to find the registration office and go sign up for your class(es). Amateur entry fee’s are $25 for each class, pro’s are $35. (if you sign up online, otherwise you will pay $5 more if you wait until race day) Even if you pre-registered on-line, you must come to the Registration office to sign some forms and get your practice sticker. Generally, one practice sticker is given to each racer (even if racing in 2 separate classes) which you should place on your front # plate. This identifies you as a paid racer and let's the stagers know that you are allowed to participate in the practice.
10:30 a.m.
Practice:
Amateur practice generally starts around 10:30. Each racer will get one practice run, which is typically about 5 or 6 laps. The only time you will get more than one practice is if you have 2 different bikes, running in 2 separate classes. Please be fair to everyone and don’t try to get in extra practices. Time doesn’t allow for us to give each class more than one practice. Heat race order should be ready and posted by the registration and by the pit gate by the time your practice is over. Please check this order and make sure you are in the correct class with the correct bike number. It is your responsibility to check this. If a mistake was made and you weren’t entered in the correct class, by the time you get to staging it is difficult to correct it. Check the heat order.
1:30 p.m.
Heat Races:
Heat races are the next order of business. Basically a heat race only determines your gate choice for the main event (i.e. if you finish 1st in your heat race, then you get first pick of where you want to be on the gate for the main event. However, as classes become too full for the gate, heat races then become qualifiers. For example, in a standard motorcycle race, the gate will hold 14 bikes. If we have 20 signed up for a particular class, then we will divide the class into 2 heats. Then we take the top 6 finishers from each heat. This gives us 12 racers. We then have a last chance qualifier (LCQ) in which we will then take the top 2 finishers. This gives us our 14 racers for the main event. In the past Cycle City was able to have all LCQ's during the main event racing in front of the crowds, however increasing racer turnout has forced us to change this format. We now run almost all LCQ's during the day, immediately after heat races. It is your responsibility to know the schedule, know when your practice is, know when your heat is and know if you have an LCQ or not. You must take responsibility for your own schedule and show up at the gate on time. The order of things can change throughout the day. You must always be checking and making sure you know when your class is to be on the gate. Areancross schedules are very tight and gates cannot be held for racers who aren't aware of the schedule.
5:00 P.M.
Pro’s Practice:
After heat races we move onto Pro's and their practice. Depending on turnout and the number of practices need, pro practice typically take less than an hour. After Pro Practice has been completed, the track is prepped and final touches are being made for the night program. This is a good time for the racer and his crew to take a break, get something to eat and then re-organize everything needed for the main event. The main race order is posted around 5 p.m. It is your responsibility to find your class on the main Race Order, and make sure you are listed in it. Make sure you number is correct also. Check and re-check. Once the main show has begun it is difficult to make adjustments.
7:30 P.M.
Main Show:
The main show (in most areas) begins at 7:30 p.m. The first 3-4 classes of the main event should be staged and ready to go by 7:00 p.m. If you won a trophy, you can expect to pick it up from the registration office approximately 15 minutes after your race was completed. That's it. An adrenaline filled day of fun, speed, friends, competition, more fun, more speed and lots more adrenaline.
